Why This Book has Value:
The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald is both an inspirational and moving book. The book starts out with the narrator, Nick, moving into a rental home in New York. He discovers he is neighbors with Jay Gatsby! Gatsby has a mysterious past and a past relationship with Daisy, Nick's cousin. They were lovers when Gatsby lived in Louisville but Daisy moved on to marry a man named Tom. Eventually, Nick is invited to one of Gatsby's big parties and learns more about Gatsby's past! Gatsby reveals that he is still deeply in love with Daisy, whom is now married. Affairs with several characters happen throughout the book. It ends with a very surprising conclusion which is definitely a spoiler so, read the book to find out!
I think The Great Gatsby is
a wonderful book for teens and adults alike to read. It expresses feelings of
love, heart break, and entwined in that mix, we learn what achieving your
dreams really means. The quote, “Gatsby believed in the green light, the
orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but
that's no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther .
. . . And one fine morning — So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back
ceaselessly into the past,” is a brilliant example of how important it is to persevere
in life and triumph in everything you want to achieve.
Not only is the meaning of The
Great Gatsby influential but, it is exceptionally well written. The way
Fitzgerald manipulated words astounds me. I could compare the experience of
reading the story to that of reading incredible poetry on every page. This
quote, “For a moment the last sunshine fell with romantic affection upon her
glowing face; her voice compelled me forward breathlessly as I listened—then
the glow faded, each light deserting her with lingering regret, like children
leaving a pleasant street at dusk,” shows just a small scale of what you see
throughout the entire book. Fitzgerald describes his characters with such vivid
stories that you can’t help but fall in love with each and every one of them.
Whether you are looking for a
touching and powerful story or you just want to broaden your literary
knowledge, The Great Gatsby is a must read! I would have to give this
book a perfect score of 5/5!
I like the quotes that you give because now I want to read the book and because of how well you described it will make anyone want to read.
ReplyDeleteI love the words that you used to describe The Great Gatsby. I too believe it is a must read. The affairs among everyone, romantic or other, is practically edible when it comes to the novel's super food like material. I love how this is practically an ad for the book! Made me want to read it again.
ReplyDeleteI loved the way you described the book and really made me understand what kind of writing I'd be missing out on if I didn't read it. I loved your description, it was short and sweet but also just enough for me to know what the book is about. I also think it's great how excited and passionate you seemed about The Great Gatsby. That says a lot.
