The Fault in Our Stars: Jiang Braley

Title of Book: "The Fault in Our Stars"
Author: John Green
 # of Pages 313
Star Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆
 Why This Book has Value:

The Fault in Our Stars is a gut wrenching, yet heart warming romantic love story about 2 teenagers who both have their struggles when their lives cross paths.  After reading this story, you will be inspired to live your life to the fullest and not let anything hold you back.
John Green writes the book as seen through the eyes of Hazel Grace, a sixteen year old with cancer.  Hazel meets Augustus Waters, who also had cancer, in a support group.  It's your classic love at first sight when they meet.  Hazel describes her reaction like this, "Look, let me just say it: He was hot. A non-hot boy stares at you relentlessly and it is, at best, awkward and, at worst, a form of assault. But a hot boy....well."  Their friendship grows as Hazel gets Augustus to read a book she loves, "An Imperial Affliction."  The book parallels their lives as it leaves them with many unanswered questions.  They go on a quest to meet the author in Amsterdam to get answers.  They leave with none.  This mimics how like their future together is full of unanswered questions that may never be answered.
The way John Green writes makes you feel like you are actually experiencing what is happening in real life as you are drawn into Hazel and Augustus' lives.  You feel this connection to the characters like they are one of your friend, normal teenagers who are facing an extraordinary circumstance.  Both are living with cancer and this is something that most people can relate to. We all seem to know someone who has had cancer and how they struggle to recover.  We know we can become stronger as we face our weaknesses and fears especially when we have support from people we love.  It's exciting to read how that by meeting each other, Hazel and Augustus start to grow as human beings.  Hazel begins to live beyond her cancer and Augustus begins to care about living. "It is a good life, Hazel Grace." Augustus states to Hazel. No wonder they fall in love.
This book grabs you immediately and doesn't let you go until the last page. What makes this book valuable and worth reading is the reminder we all need from time to time, never let your problems get in the way of living your life.  Live the life you want no matter the situation.  Teenage adolescents will really love this book, however, it is a book for anyone young at heart who believes in the power of love.   If you like romantic love stories with an unexpected twist, than this is definitely the book for you! If you haven't read this book I completely recommend this book. You won't regret spending the time to read it.

  1. This is a great review. It makes me want to read "The Fault in Our Stars" all over again because of the words you used like "gut wrenching" and the quotes from the book. The sentence "...2 teenagers who both have their struggles when their lives cross paths" can be tweaked a bit to make it more fluent. You could say, "two teenagers who discover they share similar struggles when their lives cross paths" or something like that to make it easier to read. Overall, great review!

  2. I really enjoyed your review, I read the fault in our stars and I think you hit this review dead on and enjoyed how you brought in quotes but didn't give spoilers to the story.
